Truck Suspension FAQ | Adaptive Kinetics

Equipment, Not a Mod.

Adaptive Kinetics is engineered as transferable, serialized suspension equipment. The system is designed to deliver real-time control, serious wheel travel, automatic leveling and long-term ownership value without permanently altering the truck.

The Basics

What is Adaptive Kinetics?

Adaptive Kinetics is a fully active, closed-loop truck suspension system for heavy-duty trucks — 3/4-ton and 1-ton pickups through Class 5. Sensors inside every shock read the road 1,000 times per second and command each corner's damping in real time. It's a bolt-on suspension upgrade: no cutting, no welding, no permanent modification, installed by a certified upfitter.

What's the difference between active suspension and adaptive or semi-active suspension?

Semi-active and adaptive suspension systems can only vary how firm an existing shock feels — they adjust damping within a passive design. A fully active suspension senses the road and commands the response at each wheel before the hit reaches the frame, the load, or you. Adaptive Kinetics is fully active: self-commanding damping and leveling at all four corners, with no driver input and no modes to pick.

Is this an air ride suspension? How is it different from air bags or air shocks?

No. Air bag suspension and air shocks support the load with compressed air, which means compressors, air lines, moisture filters, and bags that need leak checks and eventually fail. Adaptive Kinetics does not rely on air springs to carry your truck. There are no airbag leak checks, no moisture filters to swap, and no compressor cycling in the middle of the night.

How does it compare to liquid-filled truck suspension systems?

Liquid-filled and compressible-fluid suspension systems are typically permanent, welded-in installations sold for one truck — when you trade the truck, the system stays or gets scrapped. Adaptive Kinetics is equipment, not a modification: it bolts on, bolts off, returns your truck to stock, and transfers to your next truck. Over 1,000,000 miles and multiple trucks, that difference dominates total cost of ownership.

Do you mean damping or dampening?

Engineers say damping; everyone else searches for dampening — both mean controlling how the suspension absorbs and releases energy. Whatever you call it, Adaptive Kinetics does it automatically, in real time, at every wheel, 1,000 times per second.

Capability

Does it self-level? How much?

Yes — instant self-leveling suspension at all four corners, in every direction, up to 33 degrees. Off-level ground, uneven loads, tongue weight from a 5th wheel or gooseneck: the system levels the truck in real time without switches, manual air-up, or waiting on a compressor.

How much lift, wheel travel, and articulation does it have?

On-the-fly adjustable lift of up to 12 inches, 28 inches of wheel travel, and 44 inches of articulation. That travel and articulation is what keeps all four wheels in contact with the surface — and tire contact is traction. A wheel in the air does nothing.

Is it good for towing and hauling — 5th wheel, gooseneck, slide-in campers?

That's the core use case. Real-time leveling under heavy tongue and pin weight, automatic damping that firms under load and softens when the road allows, and no rear-end sag. The empty-truck ride problem — the harsh, rattling ride of an unloaded HD truck — goes away too, because the system adapts to the load instead of being sprung for a worst case you're not carrying.

What about work trucks, ambulances, and overland rigs?

The same system serves hard-duty segments: work trucks that live loaded, ambulance and emergency vehicles where stability affects patient care, and overland trucks that need wheel travel and self-leveling far from pavement. If the platform is a 3/4-ton through Class 5 chassis, Adaptive Kinetics fits the mission.

Ownership

Is it really bolt-on? What happens at trade-in or lease return?

100% bolt-on to your truck's existing mounting points — no cutting, no welding, no drilling a brand-new frame. When you're ready to trade, or the lease is up, the system unbolts, your truck goes back to stock, and the equipment bolts onto your next truck. Ownership follows the asset, not the VIN.

What's the warranty?

Non-wear components are warranted to 1,000,000 miles for the original purchaser. Since the system transfers from truck to truck, that warranty is designed to outlast several trucks, not one.

What does it cost to own compared to air ride, liquid systems, or just running stock?

Our estimated total cost of ownership over 1,000,000 miles (four trucks at 250,000 miles each, hard-service duty cycle): about $48,820 for Adaptive Kinetics bought once and transferred, versus roughly $60,840 running stock suspension truck after truck, versus $156,000–$204,000 for welded-in systems repurchased with every truck. That's a fraction of the alternatives and about 20% less than letting the OEM suspension run its course. Figures are estimates for comparison; see the full cost breakdown for line items.

How long does installation take?

Installation is performed by a certified upfitter and typically runs 20–24 shop hours — days, not the weeks of downtime that welded-in modifications require. Because nothing is cut or welded, the work is reversible from day one.

Reservations

How do I get one?

Reserve a serialized build slot. Production is limited to 100 build slots for the year, nationwide, and slots are assigned in order — your serial number is numbered to your name. A deposit of 10% of your quote holds your slot, and every dollar of it is credited to your purchase at delivery.

Which trucks does it fit?

Heavy-duty pickups and chassis from 3/4-ton and 1-ton through Class 5, across major HD platforms. Reserve early and our team confirms fitment for your specific truck, year, and configuration before your build slot comes up.
